Foreign divers rescued in Red Sea

Twelve European divers who went missing in the Red Sea off Egypt during a tourist trip have been rescued. The five Britons, five Portuguese and two Belgians were spotted in the water by an army helicopter and were picked up by boat.
They went missing on Saturday, at the start of a week-long cruise and diving trip in the area.

They had been diving near a tiny island off the coast of al-Quseir, a resort 330km (205 miles) south of Cairo. The dive site is known as "The Brothers" and is located in the Southern Red Sea. This site can be a challenging dive site, with strong currents. Many liveaboards operating this area say that 50 dives or more need to be logged before you can dive these sites.

An Egyptian police official said the divers "went down and never surfaced". A government official said the divers were spotted in the water 56km (35 miles) from al-Akhawain island. They were being taken back to al-Quseir, probably to a hospital.

NoTanx Freediving with Emperor Divers

Already proving popular at Emperor’s Soma Bay diving centre, freediving is now also being offered at Emperor’s Hurghada dive centre. NoTanx Freediving School is run in conjunction with Emperor Divers and is far removed from the sort of freediving associated with Tanya Streeter!

It’s the next step to snorkeling, which is easy and fun for everyone. Emperor’s instructors can teach the snorkeling techniques required in just a few simple stages. If snorkelers or divers want to go that bit deeper then Emperor’s new freediving package is ideal for meeting the fish face to face on a single breath!
Freediving is a safe and thoroughly stimulating experience and can be enjoyed by anyone under the instruction and supervision of a professional instructor .Conditions are ideal for beginners - natural, safe and calm within sheltered waters.

Learning in the lagoon

Once the basics have been mastered, there are a number of freediving or snorkeling trips available taking in night dives, wreck adventures, fish identity, photography and many more.

Breathing relaxation courses are also available for general in-water relaxation and especially for heavy-breathing scuba divers who want to extend dive times. After just one session, divers will notice a significant difference.

Emperor's Tekstreme Team supports International competition

Emperor Divers' Tekstreme Team was selected to be the support diver team during the 1st International Free Diving Trophy (Apnea Academy competition) “City of Peace” that took place on 20th and 21st May 2004 in Sharm El Sheikh.

One of the most important parts of this Trophy was the Constant Weight Free Diving competition, with more than 40 free divers coming from all over the world.

The Tekstreme Team organised all safety aspects of this event, with support divers on the bottom, at different depths and at the surface. Obviously, because of the great depths and very long bottom times involved with this kind of event, the full range of deep diving equipment was intensively used from Trimix to Nitrox, from closed-circuit rebreathers to stage cylinders and twinsets.

The thorough planning made the competition run smoothly and all the competitors were grateful to the Tekstreme divers for their impressive support.

Oonasdivers’ new Northern Red Sea Wreck Special

In 2005 Oonasdivers offer an opportunity to dive into history, these unique and exciting trips will take divers to the Northern Red Sea for six days unlimited diving on some of the finest wrecks in the world. Oonasdivers’ new liveaboard M Y Sea Flower

Oonasdivers is offering you an opportunity to be one of the first to experience their brand new liveaboard, M Y Sea Flower. She was launched in April 2004 when she took her maiden voyage from the boat building area of Suez to Hurghada and will now be chartering the stunning off shore reefs of the Southern Red Sea.

M Y Sea Flower is a beautiful boat in form and fittings, she has the power and size to cruise comfortably to the off shore reefs of The Brothers, Elphinstone and Daedalus, as well as the lower reaches of the St John’s Reef chain near the Sudanese border.

On her regular charters she will sail with a minimum of 14 divers on board although she does in fact have the capacity to provide space and beds for up to 20 guests. This makes her an ideal boat for clubs and large groups to charter.

Oonasdivers offer a new video workshop with Bob Johnson.

Bob Johnson first came to Sharm El Sheikh in 1979 when Na’ama Bay consisted of three dive centres, one hotel and no dive boats! Having lived there and dived the reefs for 14 years his encyclopedic knowledge of the underwater world is second to none.

Bob enjoys a busy career as a cameraman on natural history documentaries, as a trainer of actors for films and commercials.

Bob’s video workshops are designed to be fun, informal and non-academic - to help aspiring videographers to develop an “eye” and to give a basic understanding of composition, the capturing of behavioral sequences of the fish life and to document the day to day magic of the reefs and open water.

The Video workshop will be on M.Y Juliet, a popular Northern Red Sea liveaboard now with TV and video players in every cabin and an optional upgrade to the luxurious master cabin. Her exciting dive itinerary has plenty of variety and includes the very best coral reefs and islands between Tiran and Gubal Straits as well as Ras Mohamed.
